Today I think I agreed to run a marathon in three weeks time. At the beginning of the year I set a list of goals (resolutions, if you will) for the year, and one of them was to run a marathon. That was based on the fact that I ran one half marathon last year, so I wanted to double up and run one full marathon this year. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Somewhere near the end of last month I ran Swansea half marathon. I got a PB, but it wasn’t a great run, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t finish that run thinking ‘I could totally do another one of these right now’. It is a completely different race and a completely different game plan though. In Swansea, I had to try to stick to 5 minute kilometres in order to get my target time of 1hr45.
For the Gloucester Marathon my only aim is to finish, which means I can run at 6-6:30 minute/kilometres.
My other running goal for the year is to run a 5km in under 21 minutes. After Swansea half that was supposed to be the next thing I was training for. But now there’s this full marathon coming up…
And it’s ambitious. And it’s a bit mental. But… I kinda wanna give it a go.
I mean, at the end of the day it’s just two half marathons init? That’s how it works. I can do one half marathon no problem, so y’know… two will be fine.
Until tomorrow, that’s what I’m telling myself, at least.
