Skewer

July 6th 2017

Today I only went and did it again. We’ve had another mini(ish) heat(ish)wave over the last couple of days so of course I had a barbecue for dinner. And let me tell you, I nailed it again. I did cheat a little bit by buying the lamb koftas – usually I’d make them from scratch – but it was still all good.

The shop-bought ones fell apart a little bit and one of them actually kinda sorta fell down the holes. Woops.

Naturally, after my recent discovery of my love for halloumi, I bought some especially for the barbecue tonight. However, the only shop I go past on the way home from work is a Morrison’s, so the halloumi wasn’t actually the best it could be. I did get sent a recipe for halloumi sagnaki that I’m kinda sorta dying to trying out.

Other than the halloumi and koftas, I did my standard thing with the chicken and emptied the contents of my spice cupboard into a bowl, mixed the chicken round in it and BBQd it. It works!

And Alice prepared some giant cous cous and homemade tortilla chips.

With the amount of barbecues we’re having I really need to invest in some metal skewers, because the thing about wooden skewers is that wood is flammable, and y’know… I’m barbecuing them. I know that you can soak them in water or some shit to stop them catching flames, but I tried that and it didn’t seem to work.

Wood is inflammable? Who knew? (Also, did you know that ‘inflammable’ and ‘flammable’ are synonyms? Who knew?)

Also there was cider.

Until tomorrow, it was a proper summer’s night.
