Concord

February 9th 2017

Today I’m back in my own bed after 3ish days in Germany. It’s been a long three days. Especially today. Something about that time travel/time difference lose an hour when you fly west thing has made it seem like this day was at least an hour longer than usual.

My flight left Frankfurt at 8.00pm and arrived in Bristol at 8.40pm. It was like being on concord. Except it was a 3 seater toothpick of a plane. I’ve also just realised that I made that journey at 2am in the morning on the night when the clocks go back then you’d land 20 minutes before you took off.

Literal time travel.

Anyway, here’s a picture of Frankfurt taken from my plane window. It’s blurry because of how fast we were going. Obvs.

I liked Germany. I liked how it was impossible to get anything to eat that wasn’t either steak or sausage. Like, I went down for lunch in the office canteen today and they were serving steak. It came rare, with dauphinoise potatoes, jellied gravy (idk) and shaved truffles – and it cost about four quid.

You don’t get that in Gloucester. That’s a proper work lunch – none of this Subway and/or Nando’s nonsense that I’ve fallen into the habit of recently.

Although, thinking about it, in my hotel hotel breakfast there was bacon and egg but no sausage. That was disappointing.

Other than the meat, one of the main things I learnt from my business trip to Germany was the scale of our parent company in comparison to us. Maybe it’s just because I never see our lot in the same place at the same time, but looking around the canteen at lunch, I was shocked by the volume of people (can people be measured by volume? idk).

They’ve got two nine-story office buildings across the road from eachother, and that’s just the office in Karlsruhe. There’s other offices all across Germany.

Until tomorrow, no wonder they provide steak for lunch.
