Away

March 1st 2016

Today my girlfriend and I discussed booking a holiday. It’s now exactly four months since we returned from travelling Europe, and I think we’re both ready to get away again.

We’ve been discussing various trips we could take if we wanted to travel properly again. We could do the east, west or both coasts of America, we could do Australia, we could do Europe again, and every week we have a different answer. Some weeks we decide we don’t want to, that we don’t want to drop everything and leave again, and mainly, we don’t want to come home with nothing again. But the next week we’ll meet up on our Tuesday night date and we’ll have had enough, and we’ll need to get away again.

We’re discussing a holiday to Croatia, to Split and Dubrovnik, places we’ve already been that will serve as a relaxing holiday in the sun, rather than a ‘travelling’ trip.

That’ll probably satisfy our wanderlust for a bit, until our next change of heart.

We ate dinner at a restaurant that had an ice cream bar reminiscent of ones we visited in Croatia, actually. Alice always swears that the best ice cream is in Italy, but my favourite was Croatia.

So going to Croatia be great, but I still don’t know if it’s enough. I’m at a stage in my life where I don’t want to give up living and start working, but I’m battling with myself because I know that I have to.

I still want to travel, and I don’t want to work. That’s the ideal life, right? But to travel you need money and for money you need to work.

And when I say I don’t want to work, I mean I don’t want to do the 9-5 grind, and live for the weekends because I hate my job. “Find a job that you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”

So I just have to find the right career. Preferably one that pays £40,000 a year and allows me to have three month holidays to travel the world.

I always got annoyed when people said “you have a maths degree? Do you want to be a maths teacher?” But maybe there’s something in that… I don’t want to be a teacher but having the summers off is a pretty decent gig.

For now, I’ll settle for a two week break in Croatia.

Until tomorrow, anything with sun, ice cream, and sea.
